Q: Is VTI licensed? A: VTI is licensed by the Commission for Independent Education, which is a governing sector of the Florida Department of Education. The school must meet high standards of education excellence and program instruction in order to hold this licensure. Yearly reviews, including onsite facility visits, are integral to receiving a state license. VTI has successfully completed this process and has received certificates of licensure by the Florida Department of Education since 1995.

Q: Why do I have to have a high school diploma or GED, or pass an Ability to Benefit Exam to enroll in one of your diploma programs? A: The programs that VTI offers are technical in nature. It is in the student's best interest to be competent in basic math and reading skills in order to be successful in his or her program of study, and thus in the career field.
Q: What if I don't pass the CPAt (ability to benefit) test, and I don't have my high school diploma or GED? A: If a student still presents a desire to learn and apply his or herself in their field of study, tutoring will be provided in basic math and reading skills, and the CPAt test readministered not sooner than fourteen days of unsuccessful completion.
|
Q: What if I miss a scheduled teleconferencing / videoconferencing session? A: Attendance in lectures is a critical student responsibility due to the concentrated nature of the instruction provided. Absences are excused for valid reasons only, and must be authorized by the instructor. All absences must be made up, not to exceed a 20% absence limit, and no unexcused absences are allowed.
Q: What if unforeseen circumstances cause me to delay attending my lectures or veterinary clinic externship? A: If the program of study is not completed within the expected timeframe an Extension Request may be filed. In cases where the delay is a result of student difficulty with the program, additional tutoring and advisement will be provided as needed.

Q: What if I am having difficulty gaining externship placement in a veterinary clinic? A: VTI provides veterinary clinic placement assistance. Every effort is made by the school's placement advisor to prepare the student for entrance to a veterinary clinic, both for the externship requirement and for later employment, and to assist the student in the clinic application process. This assistance should not be considered a guarantee for wage compensation or clinic placement, as individual student conduct and effort is also relevant. Prospective students should review local career opportunities, employment statistics, and wage rates prior to registering. However, the school maintains a highly satisfactory level of student placement as a requirement for school licensure through the Commission for Independent Education, Florida Department of Education.
Q: What if I fall behind in my school payments?
A: The school reserves the right to dismiss any student for non-payment of monies due. Costs of collection will be added to the student's account, and all outstanding monies, including a $50.00 re-enrollment fee, must be paid before the student may be reinstated to the program.
|
Q: If my personal schedule changes, can I change my class schedule? A: VTI offers day and evening classes Monday through Friday. If necessary, a student can change his or her class schedule to a more accommodating time or day.
Q: Does my location of residence matter when I take a program or seminar through VTI?
A: VTI is a distance learning school, which means that we offer our classes and seminars using technology that allows our students to access lectures from any location through teleconferencing (over the phone) or videoconferencing (over the computer). There is no need to travel! VTI brings the school to you.

Q: What is involved in the clinic externship requirement? A: Students in either of the Small Animal Technician programs must complete 200 hours of clinical training in an approved veterinary clinic and have practiced a detailed checklist of technician duties and skills. An additional 24 hours of specific concentration in the clinic is required for the lab portion of the program. The Veterinary Receptionist program has an 8-hour laboratory requirement.
Q: What credential do I get when I successfully complete my program of study?
A: A diploma is awarded for successful program completion, recognizing that the graduate is proficienct as a technician, specializing in small animal care (dogs and cats). Postsecondary schools do not provide career certification. Certification is administered at the state level and is only required for veterinary technicians in some states. Certification is not required in the state of Florida. In the states that require an A.A. degree or better in the field, and passing of the state examination, VTI's SAT program would train the student for the position of veterinary assistant.
Q: What is the difference between VTI's Small Animal Technician program and an A.A. degree in a related field?
A: Our Small Animal Technician program is offered in either a 20-week or 40-week format, each delivering the same material but at different paces, awarding a diploma to recognize the graduate's career training at the technician level. VTI uses the small animal portion of the Veterinary Technician curriculum to train students in the specific area of Small Animal Technology (omitting large animals, exotics, etc., as well as general studies) to allow students a more immediate entry in the veterinary career field as a technician.
|
Q: What if I want to further develop my expertise as a technician? How do I become more specialized? A: Graduates of VTI's Small Animal Technician program, as well as persons already working in the field, who wish to gain training in specialized areas of the veterinary clinic may attend VTI's seminars. A technician series is offered to provide technicians advanced training in emergency care, radiology and ultrasound, laboratory, dentistry, anesthesia and surgery, and nutrition. Office management and miscellaneous seminar series are also available.

Q: What does the bookstore carry? A: Our bookstore offers a carefully selected collection of veterinary titles, with a series specifically chosen for veterinary technicians. Many of the veterinary titles offered correlate with an associated seminar series for advanced training and career specialization.
Q: What is the refund and exchange policy on book orders? A: Book order returns will be accepted within 14 days of receipt. Refunds or exchanges will only be given on books returned in their original, undamaged condition. Shipping charges will be credited if the item was shipped damaged or in error, otherwise the shipping will be deducted from the refund. Refunds will be generated within 7 to 10 days of return. Order cancels or changes will be accepted, without additional handling charge, if the order has not yet entered the shipping process. Please contact the school with an order change or return request.
